Knitted Olympics - Walthamstow Wins!

If you like knitting and you like the Olympics, you are going to LOVE this blog post. If you also happen to enjoy a passionate love affair with Walthamstow, London – as I do – you may weep with happiness.

I owe this all to a local friend, who alerted me via Twitter. ‘Have you seen the knitted garden in Howard Road?’ she asked. (Thanks, Alessandra!) Seen it? I was out of the front door faster than you can say ‘Olympic Gold Medal’.

I wasn’t sure how I’d spot the house with the knitting. I needn’t have worried…

I knocked on the front door, but no one was in. So I scribbled a note with my contact details and put it through the letter box – I didn’t want to cavort around their garden, without at least trying to ask permission. Then I started cavorting! There were so many yummy photos to take.

HedgeRow-ing, anyone?

Then the lovely nextdoor neighbour came out to take a photo of me with the knitted sport. I’m crouching because she found digital cameras slightly challenging to engage with. How kind of her to take a photo for me, though.

Isn’t this just the best thing you’ve seen in ages? There’s been quite a lot of press coverage, you can read items here and here. I have several friends who either live or have lived on this street, but I’ve never known any of them to make knitted street art. Come on, guys! Get with the programme.
